Frances is currently in full-time private practice in Garsfontein, Pretoria East. Here her focus is predominantly on the assessment of children between the ages of 3 and 18 for learning barriers affecting academic performance, as well as behavioural and emotional difficulties affecting their development.
Regarding medico-legal assessments, as an Educational psychologist Frances assists in determining pre-accident levels of education, post-accident cognitive potential, scholastic and academic progress abilities, for school and tertiary level education as well as establishing how the accident influenced future options.
Frances started her career as an Educational Therapist employed by the Gauteng Department of Education in 2010. Here she worked at two schools for senior learners with mild to moderate intellectual impairments, primarily for trauma counselling. She was part of a team that developed, and trained her district schools in, the Sexual Abuse Protocol as well as White Paper 6: Special Needs Education, Building an Inclusive Education and Training System. She also developed an anti-bulling programme which she implemented in the schools. Part of her duties included assessing and placing learners with cognitive impairments within the special education system.
As an Educational Psychologist, Frances worked at St Stithians Girls’ College where she was part of team dedicated to assisting the learners with special needs. Her primary focus was on short-term counselling for emotional challenges and community out-reach projects to underprivileged schools and homes for the aged. During her internship, she assessed learners from various primary schools for placement in special schools as well.
